Scouting Wedding Locations in Advance

When we haven’t previously photographed a wedding venue we always check it out in advance. Last Wednesday, Sari one of the managers,  gave us a mini-tour of www.bellaseraeventcenter.com  in Brighton, CO. Then on Saturday we photographed Stephanie & Zach’s wedding there.

We loved the curved staircases and the old romantic Tuscany, Italian look of the entrance.  It’s so helpful for us to pre-visualize photos we can produce at the actual wedding.

The Difference a Good Wedding DJ Can Make

We are always seeing new and different things at weddings. Last week at Nicole and Zach’s wedding they had “Too Much Fun DJ” at their reception. Neil and Beth at www.toomuchfundj.com bring light plywood guitar cut outs and stage a “guitar hero” competition. TOO MUCH FUN!

While many people think of the DJ as someone who just plays the music, the DJ actually has a very important role in setting both the pace and tone of the reception. In addition to playing music that gets people out of their seats and on the dance floor, the DJ is also responsible for making sure all activities fit within the time allotted for the reception. Having a DJ that can connect well with the crowd and keep the celebration moving along smoothly can make the difference between a wedding reception, where everyone is involved and enjoying themselves, and a reception where everyone is sitting in their seats.

Hiring a quality DJ for your wedding is definitely important, so take the time to do your research. You can often learn a lot about a DJ by reading reviews. Consider asking your friends and recently married couples for recommendations too. Don’t just let price dictate your decision. Just because one DJ may charge more doesn’t necessarily mean they’re better. Choose a DJ you really like. Even if they’re a little more expensive, it’s worth a few extra dollars to have a DJ who you are confident will make your special day that much more memorable.

Lily Lake and Mary’s Lake Resort in Estes Park

Kacy and Garret’s wedding photographs showcase some of the gorgeous scenery at Lily Lake and Mary’s Lake Lodge in Estes Park, Colorado. Located in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Lily Lake offers magnificent views of Longs Peak and Mount Meeker. The reflection of these surroundings on the lake makes a beautiful backdrop for Kacy and Garret’s wedding photographs.

Located just a few miles from Lily Lake on the Eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains, Mary’s Lake Lodge and Resort is a beautiful wedding venue. It’s Forever Garden, overlooking Mary’s Lake and the Rocky Mountains, is a prime location for wedding ceremonies. The lodge also features elegant dining and banquet rooms that provide the perfect ambiance for wedding receptions. And the attentive staff helps to coordinate everything and ensure the day goes smoothly. The resort also offers luxurious rooms and private condos for the wedding party and guests.

Wedding Ring Situation

We had a unique wedding photography moment last week. During Lindsay and Ben’s wedding ceremony, Lindsay accidentally put Ben’s wedding ring on his right hand. To make matters worse he couldn’t get it off!

Eventually Ben was able to get the ring to his left hand, but that got me thinking about the symbolism of the wedding ring and why it’s worn on the fourth finger of the left hand. So here’s a little history:

The wedding ring has its roots in ancient Egypt. The ancient Egyptians, like many other cultures, considered the circle to be a symbol of eternity because it had no beginning and no end. They also considered the hole in the center of the circle to be symbolic of a doorway to the future and things to come. Rings, which are in the shape of a circle, would be given as a gift to a significant other to symbolize eternal love and a future together. A ring was always worn on the fourth finger of the left hand because the ancient Egyptians believed that the vein in the fourth finger led directly to the heart.  So wearing the ring on your fourth finger was a sign that the person who gave it to you had a direct link to your heart.

We’re glad that Ben was able to get the ring to his left hand and wish Lindsay and Ben all that the rings symbolize – eternal love and a wonderful future together!

Jacqueline and Adam’s Wedding at Ptarmigan Country Club

Last Saturday we photographed Jacqueline and Adam’s wedding at the Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins. The Ptarmigan Country Club offers a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere for both the wedding ceremony and reception and an event coordinator is on staff to help coordinate it all. Jacqueline and Adam had their ceremony on the golf course in the Ptarmigan Country Club tent. The ceremony was then followed by a reception filled with lots of dancing at the clubhouse. As you can see in the pictures below, it was a beautiful day and the sky made a gorgeous backdrop for their wedding photographs.
