Another beautiful wedding venue is Hudson Gardens located on Sante Fe Blvd. in Littleton, just ten minutes outside Denver. This wedding site features 30 acres of gardens and provides amazing photography opportunities. Take a walk down the winding path through the garden and you’ll be surrounded by a vibrant array of flowers and foliage at every turn.

The venue offers both indoor and outdoor areas for the ceremony and reception, each with breathtaking views. In Monet’s Place, the water garden complete with waterlilies and koi fish provides an intimate setting. The Rose Garden is also a favorite with its large oval fountain surrounded by fragrant rosebeds. Indoors, the historic inn has vaulted ceilings, wood floors, two fireplaces, and lighting to provide the perfect ambiance.

Della Terra Mountain Chateau

Couples often ask us about our favorite venues. There are several venues in the Denver area that we’ve enjoyed. One is Della Terra Mountain Chateau, a stunning hillside event center in Estes National Park near the north entrance of Rocky Mountain Park. The Chateau is just a little over an hour drive from Denver and Fort Collins and offers majestic views that are a perfect backdrop for wedding photographs.

This secluded venue is nestled in the cliffs, providing an intimate and romantic setting. Wedding ceremonies can be held either outdoors at The Devotion Place, or indoors at The Celebration Place, which also serves as a beautiful reception area. The Chateau also features an outdoor patio, a gathering place where appetizers are served, a full bar, and a gourmet kitchen.

Della Terra offers several amenities for guests including a styling salon, spa, theatre and library. Luxury suites also come complete with fireplaces, sitting nooks with spectacular views, and private balconies with hot tubs.

Fitting In Isn’t Hard To Do

We are in full swing this month booking weddings in the Denver and Fort Collins areas for next summer. Choosing a wedding photographer is an important decision and we are always happy to answer questions to aid couples in that process. We were asked this weekend about how we dress for weddings and were surprised to hear that, apparently, some wedding photographers wear jeans and t-shirts. We respect that this is a very special day for the couple and their families, and as such we wear formal attire. I usually wear a black dress or dress slacks with a dark colored blouse. Bill wears dress slacks and a collared shirt with a tie.

Your vendors, especially photographers, become default guests at your wedding. Not only should your wedding photographer dress nicely and blend in, but it’s also important that he or she be comfortable mingling with others. At every wedding we shoot, at least one guest will approach me and ask about our cameras and lenses. Photography is a very popular hobby and people are often interested in the equipment we use and our techniques. Your wedding photographer should be able to converse comfortably with your family and friends and still be able to capture all the unique and memorable moments of your wedding day.

Welcome to November!

Bill and I are enjoying the end of our busiest wedding season ever here in Denver. However, our wedding photography responsibilities are far from over. We are now in full swing preparing, ordering, and delivering final wedding albums to our Northern Colorado couples. This is exciting, but it’s also a big task. We need to adjust and refine the layouts of our book designs to meet the unique needs of each client. Bill then thoroughly reviews each photo and removes every blemish, reflection, and stray hair. Once we are completely satisfied down to the very last detail, we send the design to our book printer. For the next 30 days, we wait eagerly along with our clients for the final product to arrive.

Curiously, many of our couples take several months to choose a layout and complete this process. It sometimes seems that we are more eager to create the books than they are! However, it’s well worth the wait once each wedding photograph has been chosen and perfectly placed in the album. The final books are the real heirloom for your family and the best presentation for our art.

Lighting Considerations Are Key to Great Photography

It’s October and Fall is upon us with shorter days and longer nights, so it’s dark now by 6:30pm. As the evening light is changing, we have to alter our approach with late afternoon weddings. Last weekend we had a wedding at the Tapestry House near Fort Collins with a ceremony that began at 6:30pm. The couple wanted all their photos after the wedding instead of before, a desire that we always respect. Having many years of experience with evening wedding photography during the Fall months in Northern Colorado, we were prepared for the challenges and successfully captured the beauty of the Victorian-style wedding on that romantic moonlit evening. We were able to take a few portraits before the wedding, but an incredible sunset with rays of golden light disappeared mostly unused. The pictures we took after sunset, however, still turned out lovely. The ceremony was very nice, there were lights that hung in the surrounding trees and gazebo which gave off a soft glow that warmed the evening and allowed enough light for photographs.

Taking wedding photos after sunset can present as much of a challenge as photographing a wedding in July when it’s 95 degrees and everyone is squinting in the bright sunlight. Since lighting is such an important factor of wedding photography, potential lighting problems are something we like to discuss early on. When we first meet with couples, Sherri always brings a sundown time chart so lighting issues can be addressed. As experienced wedding photographers serving the Denver area, we have photographed many early afternoon and late evening ceremonies and we work with couples to find the best approach to capture the precious moments of their special day.

First Dance Songs at Weddings – “At Last”

The right music will set the right mood at your wedding, and that mood is sure to show up in your wedding photos. We’ve covered classic crooner Frank Sinatra, contemporary crooner Michael Bublé, and the sunny new star Colbie Caillat as possibilities for your first dance possibilities, but now we turn to this particular wedding standard.

This song has been covered by everyone from Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald, and B. B. King to Diana Krall, Christina Aguilera, and Beyonce Knowles. However, the version that everyone probably knows best is the one by Etta James released back in 1961. Its wonderful, dreamy strings are accompanied by poetic lyrics about finding your true love. It’s really no wonder that so many people have shared their first dance as a married couple to this particular tune.

A Wedding Photo Testimonial from a Couple’s Mother

Hi everyone, it’s Bill here.

Now, while both Sherri and I have been working in wedding photography throughout Denver and Northern Colorado for many years now, you may notice something about our website. Namely, we have chosen to not have a page of testimonials, and we decided not to for one reason: How can you really tell that what you’re reading is a real testimonial and not just a lot of fluff written by the photographers themselves?

But awhile ago we received an email from the mother of the couple whose wedding we photographed in early August. Both Sherri and I were very moved by the email and we decided to post it here on our blog to share with you.

Dear Sherri & Bill,
I don’t even know what to say. We’ve all watched the slideshows over and over and over today and are speechless! The pictures take our breath away, it’s unanimous. We are thanking our lucky stars that we randomly found you and decided, the minute we met you both, that you would be the perfect choice for creating memories that will last in our family forever.

What you don’t know is that there were several people at the wedding who were going through some pretty tough emotional times. On this night, they were able to put that aside and just enjoy themselves. You captured their joy perfectly and those are the pictures that truly brought tears to our eyes and mean the world to them.

You both have an amazing talent of knowing just what to shoot, how to compose the shots so that they are fresh and different, yet not too hokey. We never even knew you were there… talk about being unobtrusive! And yet, I know you were down on the ground, up in the air, running up and down hills, catching every moment, no matter what it took. Everyone is still amazed at how you were able to post these slideshows almost before the event was over. I guess you’re magicians as well as photographers!

We’ve sent the links out on our Facebook accounts, as well as via emails, to tons of folks. We hope that, when these circulate, it will bring more and more attention to the wonderful photographers we were lucky enough to find.

About The Edgewater Pavilion in Windsor

Recently we photographed Lia & Zack’s wedding at Edgewater Pavilion in Windsor, Colorado, and were quite impressed. Aubry, Janine, and Gary (the new owners of the venue) have spent a lot of time, energy, and money to spruce up the four-acre the location, and their efforts have been well worth it.

The structures and lush landscape at Edgewater Pavilion provided countless opportunities for great photos and unique memories for the bride and groom. On the grounds, there is a rustic chapel, a reception hall, a lakeside terrace, and a beautiful lakehouse. This allows for great versatility whether you plan your wedding for spring, summer, autumn, or winter.

Depending on the size of your wedding party, you can hold the reception in the lakehouse or the reception hall. Since there is only one wedding hosted on the premises at a time, the staff will commit their undivided attention to your wedding and your wedding alone.
