Megan & Andy’s Wedding at the Mt. Vernon Country Club

On Saturday August 7th, we enjoyed Megan and Andy’s wedding at the Mt. Vernon Country Club located just outside Denver in Evergreen. In our wedding photography we captured a collection of both the posed and spontaneous, emotional moments of their special day.

Just an hour before the ceremony it rained and gave everyone a scare. Thankfully, however, the skies cleared providing an incredible view of the mountains and the Denver area. A small rainbow even came peeking through the clouds during the ceremony, which was quite spectacular. View the video below to relive Megan and Andy’s special day through our wedding photography.

Upcoming Bridal Shows

This weekend is the start of the fall bridal show season. This Sunday August 22, we will showcase our wedding photography at the Rocky Mountain Bridal Show in Denver at the Convention Center from 11:00am to 4:00pm. At our booth, we will display wedding photography samples from venues throughout Northern Colorado. I’m sure we will be tired after two weddings Friday and Saturday evening so stop by and wake us up! We will be happy to discuss our wedding photography services and answer any questions you may have.

Bridal shows are a great place for anyone planning a wedding because you can find vendors for all your wedding needs. If you can’t make it this weekend, we will also be at the Bridal Festivals Show at the Ranch in Loveland, Colorado on Sunday September 12, from noon to 4:00pm. We hope to see you at one of these events!

Heather & Bryan’s Wedding in Northern Colorado

Heather and Bryan enjoyed a wonderful wedding at Della Terra in Estes Park the last Saturday of July. This secluded Northern Colorado venue is known for its gorgeous mountain views. Below is a slide show of photographs from Heather and Bryan’s wedding. A light rain stopped just before we began taking the photos. As you will see, Heather’s smile and enthusiasm is contagious. We just loved being a part of their day.

An Unusual Wedding Song

Recently at a wedding we covered in Northern Colorado, the groom’s sister sang a song about the groom and his new bride. She is a British professional entertainer and the song recalled her brother’s trials as a computer geek, science fiction fan and the couples courtship. The audio isn’t great, but we think it is the most unusual and elaborate wedding moment we have ever personally witnessed. What do you think?

Children in Wedding Photography

Sherri here, one of our favorite parts of many weddings we’ve photographed in Northern Colorado is how the children are involved in these celebrations. Bill is a big sucker for the kids and always makes a lot of pictures of the flower girls and ring bearers. It’s always fun to see the children dressed up for the occasion and so excited to participate in the wedding festivities. It’s a special day for them too.

We can often capture the excitement and emotions of the day in candid photographs of the children. Their facial expressions are priceless. Below are some examples of wedding photography we’ve taken of flower girls and ring bearers at venues throughout the Denver area.

Our Customized Wedding Books

Bill here, I want to tell you a little about my incredible wife, Denver wedding photographer Sherri Barber, and the layouts she is creating for our coffee table style wedding books. When the wedding is over and the proofs and digital negatives are delivered to our customers, our work isn’t done. Many of our customers choose to have us produce a custom wedding album. The current trend is to print and bind a coffee table style book. Many companies are available for printing these wedding books and most photographers use the standard layouts provided by the book companies. Well that wasn’t good enough for my artistic wife, Sherri. She researched many layout programs and obtained the software to design the books herself. Over the span of about a year she learned and perfected an approach to wedding book design that is actually an extension of our style of wedding photography.

Our books are now more personal than ever. Sherri uses details of the dress, veil, flowers and venue architecture as background photos and captures the actual color palette of the wedding. I’m impressed that she has gone to this extent to ensure our books completely illustrate the beauty of each wedding day. Here are a few samples, what do you think?

Wedding Photography in Unpredictable Colorado Weather

It’s June in Colorado and that means 90 degree days and 40 degree nights. It also means that any kind of weather can alter your wedding day plans. We have just had a week of rain and also several weddings in that week. Fortunately the brides and grooms didn’t let a little inclement weather dampen their celebrations. As Denver wedding photographers, we are very experienced in adjusting our wedding photography to “Plan B” because of weather. We often go to the lee side of a building to avoid high wind, or under big trees or a porch to stay out of the rain. Many times the photographs we do under “Plan B” are more interesting than “Plan A”.

The perfect example is Sarah & Hunter’s wedding at The Omni Interlocken in Broomfield, located just outside of Denver. Fortunately we had taken most of the formal photos before the ceremony because as the ceremony was ending a storm approached and the wind strengthened. However, we still drove over to a nearby lake for some extra formals.

Just as we returned to the resort the skies opened up; 30 minutes of rain and hail followed as the efficient staff of the Omni scurried to keep the water out of the pavilion.

60 minutes after that, as the guests were finishing dinner, the sun broke through and delighted us all with a stunning rainbow.

The Wedding Cake

Bill here, providing northern Colorado wedding photography allows us to witness and share in a lot of the traditions that couples participate in at their weddings. In several blogs over the summer we will explore some of these traditions and their origins.

The Wedding Cake

Wedding cakes originated in ancient Rome, where a loaf of wheat bread was broken over the brides head to symbolize hope for a fertile and fulfilling life. The guests ate the crumbs, believed to be good luck. The custom found it’s way to England in the Middle Ages. Guests brought small cakes to a wedding; the cakes were put in a pile, where the bride and groom later stood over and kissed. Apparently, someone came up with the idea of piling all the cakes together and frosting them, creating an early ancestor of the multi-tiered wedding cakes of today.

We took the following wedding cake photographs at various weddings in northern Colorado.

Bride and Groom Cut the Cake and Feed Each Other

Feeding each other the cake symbolizes how the couple will “feed” and nourish the relationship for the rest of their lives. Now, this was meant as a loving and caring symbol for each other. As for the “smearing” and pushing cake into each other’s faces? No one knows how that started!

Scouting Wedding Venues

Hi there, Sherri here. Wedding season is here for real. Bill & I will be providing wedding photography for dozens of couples in Denver this summer. We have photographed weddings at many locations along the Denver Front Range but every year we have a few weddings scheduled at venues we haven’t been to. So we always go scout the new locations a week or two before the event. We want to see the venue with the trees and foliage in season. We also try to look at the location about the same time of day as the wedding ceremony. Being familiar with your wedding location is just part of the service we provide to our clients. We can pre-plan formal photos so we are very efficient and quick on your wedding day. Your wedding photography is important to us too and we don’t want any bad surprises at the venue. Here are a few shots from a scouting trip to the First Avenue Presbyterian Church in Denver, along with a couple of photos from Kate & Mark’s wedding day.
